Church Army Updates

Capt. Rob Langmaid, community chaplin at the Northern Gateway Community Chaplaincy in The Pas, Manitoba, sends the following update for June:
June was a fairly interesting month. It started with a conference on street ministry in Winnipeg. During this time Grahme and I took the opportunity to tour some of the helping agencies in Winnipeg. Once I returned to The Pas had the youth group wind up for the year. Hopefully during the summer some opportunities will arise to continue to make contact with the Youth in this community.
During the middle of the month I visited with family at two graduations in Ontario. This was a good refreshing and relaxing time. When I returned to The Pas, my focus was on reconnecting with street people and figuring out a plan for when the Living Waters soup kitchen was closed down for renovations during the month of July.
For July I will be helping out at the friendship centre soup kitchen, as well as continuing a regular presence on the streets in the afternoons visiting with the street people and responding to needs as they arise.

Mission/Outreach Tidbit

The communication of the Evangel in its fullness to every person world-wide is a mandate of the Lord Jesus Christ to his community. There is no biblical dichotomy between the Word spoken and the Word made visible in the lives of God's people. People will look as they listen and what they see must be one with what they hear. The Christian community must chatter, discuss and proclaim the Gospel; it must express the Gospel in its life as the new society, in its sacrificial service to others as a genuine expression of God's love, in its prophetic exposing and opposing of all demonic forces that deny the lordship of Christ and keep people less than fully human, in its pursuit of justice for all people, in its responsible and caring trusteeship of God's creation and resources.

- affirmed by church leaders from Latin America at the 1974 Lausanne Congress (as quoted in I Believe in the Church by David Watson, Hodder & Stoughton, 1978, page 301)
